Day Respite Care is an individualized, family driven and community based approach to supporting families of at-risk children. Our trained respite staff members provide families with a short break from the challenges and responsibilities of parenting by working 1:1 with a child either in the family’s home or out in the community. We design an individualized plan based on the needs of the child and family, in collaboration with the family and care planning team. Day respite referrals come from state and private agencies with which we have contracts. We also work with families on a self-pay basis.
Day respite providers are individuals whom Children’s Friend selects, trains and supervises to care for children with special mental health needs on a temporary, individual basis. When appropriate, we choose providers who are already a part of the children’s service system in the local community, such as classroom aides, or staff from local recreational programs. This helps to build a more enduring system of support for the child, by connecting him or her to people who will be part of their social environment in the future.
